What’s the Decompression Diving Course?
The SSI Decompression Diving Specialty teaches you how to plan and conduct dives beyond the standard no‑decompression limits, safely and confidently. You’ll learn to manage limited decompression dives down to 40 m, use stage tanks, switch gases, and make full use of your dive computer’s advanced features. This course bridges recreational and technical diving – perfect for exploring deeper wrecks, walls, and marine environment.
What to Expect
Digital & Instructor-led Theory – You’ll complete SSI’s online modules covering decompression planning, gas management, computer features, and emergency procedures. Then, you’ll review real-world dive plans and setups with your instructor.
Confined Water Session – In a controlled pool or shallow-water setting, you’ll practise rigging your stage tank and switching gases safely, so you’re fully prepared before heading beneath the surface.
Three Open Water Decompression Dives – Under instructor guidance, you’ll complete three supervised dives to 40 m. You’ll perform staged decompression, simulate gas switches, and follow your plan using your computer – experiencing real decompression diving in action.
Who’s it for?
This specialty is designed for experienced divers: you must be aged 16+, hold SSI certifications in Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, Nitrox, and have at least 24 logged dives. If you’re ready to go deeper and stay longer – without stepping into full technical gear – this is your ideal next step.
What Happens Next?
With certification, you’ll be qualified for dives beyond recreational limits – and ready to explore deeper wrecks, walls, and reefs.
This course also serves as a stepping stone toward SSI Extended Range and technical diving programs.
