What’s the Scuba Skills Update Course?

Out of practice? No problem! The SSI Scuba Skills Update is a friendly, effective refresher designed to restore your diving confidence. Under the guidance of one of our professionals, you’ll revisit the key skills from your Open Water training – pre-dive checks, mask clearing, buoyancy, gas sharing, and more – until they feel second nature again.

This course is perfect before a dive holiday or if you’re resuming diving after a break. 

What to Expect

Digital Theory Review – You’ll refresh essential knowledge with SSI’s online modules – covering equipment, safety, buddy procedures, and dive planning.

Pool/Confined Water Skills Session – With one of our SSI professionals, you’ll practice core dive skills such as regulator recovery, buoyancy control, and controlled ascent/descent in calm water.

This course is a great opportunity for you to focus on what you need – whether that’s regaining buoyancy control or dialing down nerves. Just let us know, and we’ll tailor the session to suit you.

Who’s it for?

Any certified diver aged 10 or older. It’s especially useful if it’s been a while since your last dive, or if you want to feel confident before your next diving adventure.

It’s also a great fit for Open Water students who need extra practice before completing their certification dive.

After completing your skills update, you’ll be ready to dive again – whether that’s heading off on a dive holiday, joining us on the boat to explore Sussex waters, progressing to specialities, or jumping straight into your next certification. Refreshing your skills also counts toward SSI’s higher-level recognition – like Speciality Diver and Master Diver – as you log more dives.
