What’s the Open Water Diver Course?

This is your full entry-level scuba certification and the most recognised beginner course worldwide.
The SSI Open Water Diver Course teaches you everything you need to know to dive safely and confidently – from equipment and dive planning to buoyancy control and underwater communication.

You’ll complete your theory online, practise skills in the pool, then head out for four open water dives to put it all into action.

Once certified, you’ll be qualified to dive to 18 metres anywhere in the world – for life.

What to Expect

Online Learning – You’ll complete theory modules at your own pace through SSI’s interactive online learning platform. Videos, quizzes, and simple explanations help you understand how diving works and how to stay safe.

Confined Water Sessions – You’ll join us in a pool or shallow water for several sessions. You’ll get to grips with the gear, learn essential skills like mask clearing, buoyancy control, and emergency procedures – all in a calm, supportive setting.

Four Open Water Dives – Finally, it’s time for the real deal. You’ll head out into open water for four instructor-led dives. Each dive builds your confidence and gives you the chance to explore while applying your new skills in real conditions.

Who’s it for?

Anyone aged 10 and up who’s ready to become a certified diver.
Whether you’ve done a Try Dive, completed your Basic Diver course, or are starting fresh – this course is designed for total beginners.
You just need to be able to swim and be in good health.
